Latest Piece For LearnVest: Saving Money As A Bridesmaid

Being in someone's wedding is a layout of cash and time -- and an honor.

Today I have a piece on LearnVest about how to save money as a bridesmaid. It's very honest and covers topics like not volunteering to throw a shower (bridesmaids are not obligated to, per Emily Post) and how to begin any conversation about costs with the other women in the bridal party. (It's a simple, seven word phrase.)

LearnVest is full of practical money advice women need, and I'm thrilled to be writing for them. I wish they'd been around when I was 25. I'd probably own a townnhouse by now.

Gray Is The New Black...For Bridesmaids

Photo of Milford Sound in New Zealand!

You can get a bridesmaid dress in pretty much any color you want, but your girls are never going to wear that perfect, salmon hued dress again. Since fashion karma is a boomerang, it's important to think twice before wronging someone into dropping upwards of $200 on something they legitimately will never wear again.

Over at SheFinds, we love gray dresses for bridesmaids, since the color looks good on everyone and can easily be repurposed for another event. We found nine new bridesmaid dresses in gray that are anything but boring.

Bridesmaid Q & A

Everything you need to know about bridesmaids

It's just not a wedding without bridesmaids, although the bride/bridesmaid relationship is a delicate one. Technically the bridesmaids should serve a functional purpose: they are thre to help the bride with whatever she needs, be it stuffing invitations or planning a shower. Mix making requests with the stress of planning a large event, and sometimes tone and intention get lost in the translation and drama ensues.

On Friday I put together a piece about common bridesmaids questions: who to ask, what they should do what you can't make them do, like go tanning.

It works well with another piece I wrote over the summer:

How To Get Your Bridesmaids Not To Hate You

My latest piece on SheFinds is one that I'm quite pleased with. Not so much because of the content, but because I managed to work a Monty Python reference into a piece about weddings.

Enjoy!
