A Great Interview With Vera Wang

In light of the piece last week about liking fashion without being a twit, check out this interview with Vera Wang.

One of the best take aways from this is how she talks about that doing anything is all about the process, not the destination. Important to remember when you are working on any creative endeavor, be it a book or an animation or design. You'll get to the end, sure, but the meat and potatoes is along the way.

Yikes! Stripes!

When it comes to wedding dresses, sometimes it seems like a lot of the same: a flower here, a scalloped hem there, throw in a ruffle if you're feeling zany. This year there have been some great trends, such as gold, but that can be a bit much if you're leaning towards traditional.

Enter the stripe! About a week or so ago I saw this ad in a bridal magazine, and I was struck by how pretty the dress was, thanks to the delicate stripes. A few minutes later saw the same dress in another incarnation in another magazine.

I started clicking around the Pinterest and found even more striped wedding dresses. I realized this is a thing, and one that deserves attention. So I made a slideshow. Enjoy!

Happily Ever After, On Display

Always the wedding nerd, I stopped by the New York Magazine wedding show yesterday in Chelsea -- and it was amazing. The Metropolitan Pavilion is one of my favorite venues for events in Manhattan. The New York magazine people really did it up with live music, amazing vendors and an open bar.

I went to talk with vendors about Wedding Nugget, and a lot of people seemed very excited. Next week there will be much follow up.

There were gorgeous dresses everywhere.

These women were real troopers, just standing around all evening like Greek goddesses. Nice work, if you can get it?

As much as I love dresses, I also love a great tablescape. The women who run Another Wild Hare had a great one. Maybe the only ones there embracing a rustic theme?

Totally bribed Andre with French fries afterwards, since I had to drag him with me. He was a good assistant. I'm rolling solo at the next show, though.

Don't Worry, Be Happy

how to be a happy bride

This week I'm wrapping up writing for SheFinds in order to start a new project. But today, one of the last pieces I've written for them is how to be the happiest bride ever -- because you should be! People forget this part when they are stressing over guests lists and color schemes.

Put The Gloves Down

Battles to let your in-laws win

Meddling in-laws are one of the biggest cliches around, especially when dealing with weddings. We all know that there are decisions only the bride can make, and whenever someone tells me they're getting married, it takes about five minutes before in-law complaints surface.

It doesn't need to be a battleground. There are actually areas where an eager beaver mother-in-law can come on handy. We sorted it all out over at SheFinds today.

N'oubliez Pas!

Things you must do at your wedding

It's been a few days since I've updated the blog, but that's only because I've been busy writing, lining up new projects, etc. Those are all good things.

Luckily, today's post is a truly helpful one: 12 things you'll regret not doing at your wedding. Like taking a ton of family photos, hiring a videographer and serving lots and lots of food. You're welcome.

Sweet Nothings

Source: etsy.com via Pauline on Pinterest

Despite my strong relationship with snark, beneath my prickly exterior I am just a big old mush. Don't believe me? I have an entire board on Pinterest for Valentine's Day and vintage valentines.

It was a lot of fun, then, to write this piece for SheFinds about things to tell your husband right before your wedding. It's all sentimental and sweet, which ultimately is what a wedding should be.

Gatsby? What Gatsby?

The Great Gatsby as a wedding theme has been batted around for almost a year now, and it's a trend that I really hope catches on. I love the idea of a Jazz Age wedding, complete with lots and lots of gold accents. (If you ever wondered what the inside of my head looks like, that's pretty much it.)

Bridal Guide magazine has a wonderful styled shoot on their site today, and they included the following video, showing how the wedding sausage is made. But why on earth is the groom wearing a hat indoors? No man in the 1920s would have done that. (Or should do that now. Hats indoors are my #1 pet peeve.)

Beyond The Veil

Wedding headpieces

One of the most interesting aspects of writing about weddings is how diverse the offerings are nowadays. Bridal used to be white and boring, but thanks to loosening norms there is a lot more color and choice in the sector.

Today on SheFinds we put together a big piece about headpieces that aren't veils. You may wear a white(ish) dress out of tradition but you don't have to look like a snowbeast under a giant veil. Might we suggest a fascinator?

The Interlude

Between wedding ceremony and reception

There are big parts of a wedding to plan: the ceremony, the reception, how to leave, etc. There is also a window of time that tends to get overlooked: what to do between the ceremony and the reception. Sometimes this gap is big, even a few hours, and sometimes it's less than 30 minutes. Either way, as bride you need to do something.

Over at SheFinds, we have eight realistic, productive things to do before you officially get the party started. You can freshen up, take some photos or just make out with your new husband in an undisclosed location. The choice is yours.

BHLDN And The Art Of Wedding Photography

Wedding photography, in general, has come a long way. BHLDN, Anthropolgie's bridal line, has some beautiful shots in their promotional e-mails. I almost always open them just to see what they put in. The image above was from an e-mail this morning for their Art Deco line.

Wedding Makeup

Wedding makeup

It seems as if every decision when it comes to a wedding is a big one: the dress, the venue, the groom. One not to be overlooked is makeup. Weddings have evolved passed the idea of the innocent, blushing brides. Looks such as fluttery eye lashes, bold eye shadows or even a no make up look are all very of the moment. Check out the piece below.
