"Most people never pick up the phone, most people never ask."
In an age of e-mail and text messages, I still pick up the phone and call people when I need something or want to follow up, even if it is just to get coffee. Some find this surprising, even antiquated. But there are so many verbal and behavioral nuances to be picked up from a conversation that you'll never get from e-mail. (Also, they can't ignore you if they're talking to you.)
