The iPhone As Personal Time Capsule

Every iPhone I've ever owned has become a little time capsule, because I never bother to transfer data. Instead I start fresh when I get a new one. Today on The Huffington Post, I explore why these little digital boxes are important.

Times Square iPhone Issues

iPhone, originally uploaded by Panduka Senaka.

New Yorkers know that if there's no reason to go to Times Square, it's best to just stay away. Between the tourists, the crowds and the bad food, it's a place best left to those who are only in for a few days.

There is, however, a no-fee apartment building in the area, and so for a few days I found myself on 45th Street showing a few studios to a lot of people.

My job revolves largely around my iPhone, since I need it to call people, check my e-mail and check the web. Yesterday I got out of the subway, headed towards 45th Street and dug into my bag to check my phone. Oddly, the screen was black. I clicked the assorted buttons on the iPhone, and nothing happened.

Black screens are nothing new with the iPhone or even Mac products in general. What is odd is that it keeps happening in Times Square. It's happened twice now. I've also had issues with service.

So what's the deal? Has anyone else ever had cell phone issues in the vortex of consumerism that is Times Square? My iPhone was back to normal once I got to Chelsea, but it seems that Times Square is some sort of Bermuda Triangle of service.

No fee building or not, I don't think I'll be going up there again anytime soon.

A Few Shots From Around Town

Fake Keith Haring on Houston Street

I was walking around downtown Manhattan yesterday and I took a few shots. All these were taken with my iPhone, which goes to show what good, morning lighting can produce.

The iPhone Really Is The Coolest Gadget Ever

iPhone壁纸, originally uploaded by zkyo.

Now that I have gotten over the sticker shock of paying over $400 for a phone, I can finally enjoy this electronic treat.

I cut out of an evening at Ulysses' in the financial district last night in order to go home and upload songs to my iPod. I haven't finished putting all my tunes in yet, but once I do, rest assured that I will beginning poaching my friends' collections. Anyone have the first Matchbox 20 CD?

I think that Apple needs to cut the price down a little more, only because even after you get the phone you have to spend so much time talking to AT&T trying to iron out all the kinks with your plan. I spent about an hour and a half on the phone yesterday morning, and I already was an AT&T customer. I set up an iPhone for someone who was switching from Verizon, and I spent two and a half hours on the phone, mostly on hold. It's a ghost in the machine that needs to be ironed out.

And that is the last I will post about my iPhone. This weekend: parties! Photos to come.
