Photos From Around Town

I make a point of leaving the apartment at least once a day, just so that I don't go stir crazy. Of course I always have my camera with me.

TR and I have a few weddings to go to over the next few weeks, and so I stopped into the Housing Works thrift shop to find a dress, since I'm still a little doughy and I'm not paying a lot of money for something I won't wear in a few weeks.

This dress was on a huge rack of evening wear. I pity the bridesmaid who had to wear it. What's worse, Housing Works wanted $450 for it, since it's from some kind of bridal couture designer. Also: a size 2! The thing is, this dress would actually work if it weren't Pepto Bismal pink. Black, green, heck, even white would be fine.

A million struggling writers audibly groaned when they saw that Mary Jo Buttafuoco got a book deal and they didn't. The title's kind of genius, though. Who on earth would buy this?

Taking the whole pop culture vampire theme too far. This ad doesn't even make sense.

Photos From The iPhone

Bacon Hypnosis

I'm all about taking photos, and I found a few on my iPhone this morning that are worth posting.

The shot above was taken in the Union Square Green Market. There is a booth from upstate New York that sells amazing bacon with all sorts of spices in it. I'm not really a bacon/sausage/nitrate kind of gal, but it is pretty good.

Wife's number
A few weeks ago TR's phone died and he had to call me when he was out and about. A day or so later I found this Post-It note with my number on it. I'm not sure which is stranger: the fact that it's on Billboard.com paper (he doesn't even work there) or that I'm simply referred to as "wife."

This was taken a few weeks ago when I was waiting to have drinks at The Carlyle Hotel with some friends. After 10 years in New York City I'm surprised it took me so long to get there. Awesome place, all around.

Photos From The Past Week Or So...

Disco

I know how much you guys love pics, and I've been rather busy this past week. That said, here are a few to get you through your Monday morning coffee.

Unrelated: I spent Mother's Day with La Madre, who is a big fan of this blog. (That's why I gotta keep it clean, kids.) She was looking at some pics and the following exchange occurred:

La Madre: Pauliney! I'm looking at these pictures, and you have bags under eyes in so many.
Me, stating the obvious: Maybe I was tired.

Last weekend, when it was rainy and cold, TR and I headed over to the MOMA. There's all sorts of nonsense in there, including a room that has a prism that throws rainbows against the wall. (Insert Radiohead reference here.) It allowed me to create my emo album cover.

Liner notes.

Have you seen this cellist on the corner of Bleeker and West 10th Street? On nice nights he creates the perfect ambiance. And free of charge, but you really should tip him.

A Few Shots From Around Town

Fake Keith Haring on Houston Street

I was walking around downtown Manhattan yesterday and I took a few shots. All these were taken with my iPhone, which goes to show what good, morning lighting can produce.

Halloween at The China Club!

Halloween at The China Club was one of my favorite nights to shoot so far. Getting a good shot was like shooting fish in a barrell, because everyone came dressed to the nines -- in costume. I love people who take Halloween seriously.

Below are some of my faves. The full set can be found here.

La Pauline: Nightlife Photographer

Greatest Costumes Ever

A few days ago I saw a posting on Craigslist to take photos at some clubs here in NYC for AC Pass, a nightlife promoter. Given that I got a slick new Olympus SLR for my birthday (thanks Pop!) I figured I would earn some dough with it. It's the American way. Plus, taking photos is my bag, baby, so I also had a lot of fun.

I took over 200 shots for the promoter, but some of my favorites can be found here.

I headed over to the China Club around midnight, and immediately realized that Halloween in New York last for at least before October 31st. That said, there were some awesome costumes in the club, which made my job all the more interesting.

There were ghosts ans assorted goblins.

Soon I had to head over to Myst, where there weren't as many costumes but everyone was looking pretty sharp.
