Oddly, This Store Does Not Sell Cats

I thought I might find Peppe's replacement in here. Instead, jewelry?

Why the false advertising?

Saturday Morning Photos

Even Old Man Peppe likes the snow.

Andre and Val are working on their relationship. Val is curious about him, but Andre hasn't mastered the art of petting gently. He is, however, very good at grabbing.

I've been invited to an Iranian wedding in November, and so I've been reading up a lot lately about the country, its culture, etc. (Larger issue: what does one wear to an Iranian wedding? Not just any old thing...)

I found the video above and it's a nice primer, an Iran 101, if you will. Also quite good for understanding the country's basic history and the highlights of some of its larger cities.

Peppe On Hind Legs

, originally uploaded by La Pauline.

Ever since he got his lion's cut Peppe has been full of energy and vim. Now it seems he's trying to hold himself up on two legs. What's next, developing opposable thumbs?

Photos From Around Town

I make a point of leaving the apartment at least once a day, just so that I don't go stir crazy. Of course I always have my camera with me.

TR and I have a few weddings to go to over the next few weeks, and so I stopped into the Housing Works thrift shop to find a dress, since I'm still a little doughy and I'm not paying a lot of money for something I won't wear in a few weeks.

This dress was on a huge rack of evening wear. I pity the bridesmaid who had to wear it. What's worse, Housing Works wanted $450 for it, since it's from some kind of bridal couture designer. Also: a size 2! The thing is, this dress would actually work if it weren't Pepto Bismal pink. Black, green, heck, even white would be fine.

A million struggling writers audibly groaned when they saw that Mary Jo Buttafuoco got a book deal and they didn't. The title's kind of genius, though. Who on earth would buy this?

Taking the whole pop culture vampire theme too far. This ad doesn't even make sense.

Meet Romeo. He's 20 Years Old

Romeo Is 20 Years Old, originally uploaded by La Pauline.

Yesterday after picking up some keys to show a place to some clients, I walked by a pet shop on Christopher Street and noticed this guy through the window. He's a orangey/buff Persian, like other cats I have had, and he was just relaxing on the front counter.

The shop owner told me that his name was Romeo and that he was 20 years old. He lived in the shop, has lots of gourmet food to choose from and likes it when customers stop in to give him a scritch. Don't be fooled, under all the gorgeous fur is not a lot of actual cat. He is literally just fur and bones.

Like any happy cat, Romeo has a friend who lives with him in the store. Zonked out on a shelf was a huge tabby, who when stretched out looked about two feet long, and could have been mistaken for a doorstop. The tabby's name was...Valentino.

An orange Persian and a domestic short hair who live together in harmony? I know that combination well.

Peppe Pics!

Peppe

Everyone loves Peppe! Here are a few recent shots of him, in all his fluffy, Persian glory.

I'm starting to think that Peppe is Italian for "What A Perfect Cat Should Be."

He's orange, Persian and moustached? How do you improve on that? You just don't.

And here's Tom, looking scholarly with one of his many roll-down maps in the background. This week it's the Holy Roman Empire, but there are others such as Industrial England in the 1800s and Caribbean and West Indes shipping routes, circa 1960. A strange collection, especially for someone who's not a teacher. He still needs a Soviet Union map as well as early to mid-century colonial Africa.

Mozart in a Box!

Cropped Mozart in a Box

I never tire of photos of Mozart in a Box. For some reason the cat is obsessed with boxes, on many levels. I should also note that despite appearance, Mozart is not fat. In fact, at his last check up he only weighed in at 9.2 pounds. He's pretty much 90% fur and only 10% cat. That equals 100% awesome.
