Nolita, 8:30 a.m.
This is the view from a cute walk up on Mott and Prince Street. Nolita is a fancy area, with $4 coffee joints, $2500 studios and lots of celebrities.
Behind the power washed facades, however, it's still 100-year-old buildings and empty lots. Lest ye forget.

Some of Andre's grandparents weren't sure if he really liked water, judging from the photos from this weekend. This video should clear that up.
Even though he was, in fact, shivering, he stayed and played for about another hour after this was shot. He's tough, and always the largest kid on the playground. I kind of feel sorry for the parents of the shrimpy kids. ;-) Andre vill break you.

A Few From The Weekend

Andre discovered the joy of a malfunctioning water fountain at a playground.

He was the most wet (wettest?) kid there.

I went to a party, lookin' sharp.

Horsey was played

*No one was Raptured after the taking of these photographs. Better luck next year.

Digital Start Up Babble
Given that I have a background in writing, nothing amuses me more (or inspires more eye rolling) than corporate-babble. Phrases like "circle back" and "reaching out" make my skin crawl. It's rhetoric of the worst kind and it signifies nothing. No one sounds smart using them.
Add digital strategy to the mix and you've got the perfect recipe for jibberish corporate talk. Case in point: the video below:

Sunday Funday

It's been yet another great week over here on Planet Pauline -- Wednesday drinks at The Standard Biergarten and yesterday's Playground Improvement Project with the New York Junior League. We worked on the Sara D. Roosevelt park on the Lower East Side. It may look today as if my arms are smeared with blood, but it's really just the oil based paint that will take a while to wash off. I swear I didn't kill a man.
Anastascia's been quite the partner in crime lately. With any luck I'll be on her boat in the harbor next weekend -- when it isn't raining cats and trees.

This Exists. And It Is Right.
Yesterday I was kicking around East End Avenue and decided to pop into this Classic Seven. It is easily one of the most amazing rental apartments I have ever seen. Its uniqueness is not in its size (2500 square feet) or its intact, pre-war detail. (Entry foyer, formal dining room and maid's room.)
Rather, the key here is that all the modern upgrades were done by the former tenant. The crown moldings, the marble floor in the foyer, the Viking stove and the wine cooler were all on their dime. You know you love a place when you're footing the bill for the numerous, custom, California Closets.
Bit of trivia: When this building was built and designed in 1928, these units were duplexes. Talk about pre-war grandeur. They were converted to single floor, Classic Sevens in the 1950s. This explain the (slightly) dropped ceilings in the foyer.
Full specs here. Photos below.

From The Archives
March 17th, 2006. Totally forgot about this party until a shot from it popped up in my Flickr stats.
Val And Art
Everyone always thinks that Val isn't all that bright. Okay, let's face it, he's not. But when it comes to abstract art, he's spellbound.
Oh, and Peppe got a lion's cut.

Consider The Classic Six
The Classic Six is the quintessential New York City apartment: Living room, formal dining room, kitchen, two bedrooms and a maids room. Add an extra bedroom and you've got a Classic Seven. It's nice space if you can get it, and you can get it if you try.
The interesting bit about Classic Sixes, from a rental perspective, is that even though their numbers are small compared to other kinds of two and three bedrooms, Classic Sixes turn over pretty frequently. These are the kinds of units that people like to purchase -- they're designed as homes -- but when someone has to move to a neighborhood for specific reason -- a job near a hospital or within a school zone, they take these places for a year or so while they look for one to buy. That said, if you ever find yourself in need of a Classic Six, you'll usually have plenty to choose from. And by plenty, I mean at least a handful.
Full specs on this unit in the East 80s here. At $7950 it's a deal. Most are closer to $10,000 to $12,000 a month.

Live From The Fur Room

Yet another great shot from the fur room at the Bags & Bubbles event at the New York Junior League last Wednesday. The coat I'm wearing is a full length sheared mink number with a sable collar. It was as glam as glam can be. Also -- quite slimming. I didn't realize a coat could actually make you look svelte.
