Outdoor Space In NYC! $4200!

P6280465

Every now and then I see an apartment that is so cool I need to tell everyone about it.

Over on 69th Street there is a true three bedroom that has its own large private deck, pictured above. You could easily fit 20 people on it, if not more. It also has a huge living room and a separate, eat-in kitchen. It's on the third floor of a walk up, but it's a cool, pre-war building with a big staircase and lots of neat details. I've been in it lots of times and it's full of young professionals.

$4200 for outdoor space and lots of indoor space? Tell anyone you know who may need a three bedroom and I'll set up an appointment. New college grads would love this space. The same building has other three beds that are just as large but without the decks for $3900. July and August move-ins available.

Let The Emotional Warfare Begin!

I'm moving this weekend -- and I'm involving at least two members of my family! As anyone who has done this knows, moves that involve family members almost always end in arguements, and in my family's case, screaming in different languages. Whoo hoo!

Movers are coming at 8:00 a.m. to haul the big stuff, like my bed and armoire, and I already have been slated to drive a van across Manhattan. Oy.

Also: I'm in housing limbo right and need a place for about a month or so. If you know of anything, even just a room, give a shout. I'm never home since I'm always working. I just need need a place to sleep and shower.

Chris And Linda's Wedding!

P6190391

Let's recap: I met Linda in the sixth grade when we were at Ponus Ridge Middle School. She left after a year and she and I were pen pals for years, until we lost touch in high school.

Fast forward to three years ago and Linda had just moved to New York. She Googled me, e-mailed me and we picked up where we left off. Eventually she and Chris asked me to officiate their wedding, and the next thing I knew I was in Tampa meeting all their wonderful friends and family.

There Are Two Kinds Of People In This World: Window Seat People and Aisle Seat People

I'm back from Linda's wedding extravaganza, which was a quick lesson in Florida rainstorms and the persnickety nature of weather in the former penal colony. Getting down there, though, I was particularly proud of myself for reserving an aisle seat in the third row of the plane. Seat 3C is probably one of the best seats in the house, and of course some Hee Haw tried to take it from me.

Getting to any airport is never a treat, but my ride in was especially a pain in the ass, given that I had to get to Newark. One cab ride, train and air tram later, I was at the gate and boarding the plane. It was on time. I had a chick lit novel to read. Life was good.

As I approached my seat I noticed that I would be sharing the row with a young mother and her two children, one of which was a two-year-old who didn't have a seat. He sat in her lap. Odd, but initially I thought nothing of it. After all, traveling with small children is no picnic.

Out of left field a guy in a white Gilligan's Island hat appeared before me. Below is our exchange that almost led to full out air rage.

Gilligan: Excuse me, could I switch seats with you? I have a window, and you have the aisle. I would like to sit with my family.
Me: No way. I have long legs. I need an aisle.

I thought that was the end of it, and then Gilligan started trying to play musical chairs with everyone around me, including the morbidly obese man in the aisle across from from me, who clearly wasn't moving unless the plane was being evacuated. It was obvious Gilligan didn't take airplanes too often. Otherwise he would know that you can't just swap seats, especially aisle seats. Greyhound, this was not.

Unsurprisingly, no one relented their seat. Finally I said, "You know, if you wanted an aisle seat you should have reserved one."

Gilligan went back to his seat and mumbled something about me being rude.

I didn't go all the way out to the Newark airport to be insulted by a five foot two man in a fisherman's hat. My inner Rosie Perez circa Do The Right Thing came out. I stood up and asked him if there was going to be a problem. Hand gestures were involved.

The morbidly obese man and his wife saw that I was out for blood, and assured me that Gilligan would keep quiet. Again, he didn't, and he told me that I was rude.

"Maybe you should have planned your trip better," I said, and sat down to read Chasing Harry Winston for the next three hours. It was bliss.

Gilligan's wife sat staring straight ahead for the duration of the trip with a large toddler in her lap. I couldn't tell if she was embarassed by her husband or angry at me. I'm guessing embarassed by her husband. The toddler really needed his own seat. How they got that past security, I'll never know.

Moral of the story: Book the seat you want, and if you see me in seat 3C, I prefer not to be disturbed.

Now through June 30th I am only charging one month's rent as a broker fee for all deals closed by June 30th.

If you need to move in July, now is the time to call me. Broker fees are usually 15% of the annual rent. Save some dough!

A Weekend Of Friends And Sea Adventures!

Nutty weekend. Lots to report. Saturday started with me officiating a wedding in Central Park, which left two people and their families very happy. Later that same day my friend Heather, also known as Good Time Heather, was in town, which means that food and drink was in order.

Heather et moi. We date back to Syracuse 1997.

Ridonkulous rain.
Rainy Night

On Sunday morning I got up bright and early for a three hour tour of the New York Harbor on a sailboat that is almost 100 years old. The trip almost went the way of Gilligan's Island when a dark cloud loomed and dumped rain all over us.

Last Night's Antics

A much needed night at the Bryant Park bar and then Public House with the lady friends. Yuppie watering holes will always amuse me. Raise your hand if you don't work in banking.

It's Friday, so I'm posting some cat pics.

In the past week at least three of the cabs that I've gotten in have had broken credit card machines. I'm starting to wonder if the cabbies are meddling with them so that people are forced to pay cash, as opposed to just swiping their cards, as I always do.

Is this happening to anyone else? I've been lectured quite a few times by cab drivers who don't like the credit card machines because it cuts into their tips, and I'm wondering if they've gotten to a point where they don't want to deal with them anymore.

The Hierarchy Of Summer Cat Calling

Now that summer is upon us, women will invariably be wearing less clothing. That means that we will be cat called more than usual.

At least five times today assorted Latino men said, "God bless you, mami," as I walked by in my sun dress. I thought it was a sweet way to cat call, as opposed to the coarse, construction-worker whistles and "Hey Baby!"

What are your thoughts? How do you like to be shouted at by strange men?

Murray Hill Great Danes

Today while in Murray Hill I came across these two amazing Great Danes. They're almost as big as me! I admire anyone who can keep dogs this large in NYC. They seemed very happy.
